I’m currently an OMS IV (fourth-year Osteopathic medical student) at Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine (ARCOM). I have few research projects going. One is an epidemiological study of parents’ attitudes towards the HPV vaccine in Sebastian County, AR, and the surrounding River Valley. Another is an epidemiological archival study on the co-morbidities that affect those who are HIV+ in Arkansas and the surrounding areas. I’m also working on a literature review on how medicine has heretofore understood asexuality and patients who identify on the ACE spectrum.
My scientific pursuits are informed by my background training in the humanities. As an English literature PhD, I pursued interests in medieval and early modern literature, forging connections between STEM and the humanities in research and teaching, and political and queer theory. Offshoots of my dissertation project saw me investigating how representations of “froward” or troublesome women can allow us to reimagine and even bring about new political possibilities. These interests are alive in my current, more-scientific, research endeavors. But stay tuned–I’m sure I will revise this section as I continue my studies.
My previous education includes a PhD in English from USC, an MA in English from the University of Virginia, and a BA in English with a minor in Chemistry from Hendrix College.
